A man who has the pain threshold of Rocky Balboa (we assume) has been left seriously defaced after refusing to give in during a slapping match that lasted 20 minutes.
Combat sports are often a point of intrigue, as the things that are unacceptable to do to another human being in public suddenly become entertainment when it's done in a ring with a referee.
Some people are lovers and others are fighters and those that fit into the latter can turn their love of combat into a profitable venture.
That's exactly what Sorin Comsa did after he joined the RXF Slap Fighting Championship, which involves two people standing opposite each other and taking turns to slap the other into submission.
The aim of the sport is simple - don't get knocked out. But sometimes, as Comsa demonstrated, the will to win can often come with severe consequences.
He made it to the final of the event, and the last fight lasted over 20 minutes which saw the competitors trade blows as their faces became more and more injured.
Comsa got the last laugh because, despite being disfigured by the fight, the referee threw in the towel when he delivered a devastating final slap to his opponent.
The fighter won $7,800 - which might just cover the hospital bills - but it was his face that left people talking once the slapping had concluded.
One side of his face was significantly larger than the other as it swelled an alarming amount, but Comsa still stood proudly with his belt.
After seeing the state of Comsa, some have called for the sport - which doesn't appear to require much skill or training, just brute force - to be axed.
As cited by Fox Sport, MMA fighter Josh Barnett wrote on social media: “This type of event (I won’t call it a sport) is the dumbest thing there is going. X-Arm seems like the Olympics in comparison. Why do people support this s***?”
Chris Nowinski, a doctor fighting to stop the barbaric sport wrote: "I believe adults can choose to do dangerous jobs if they understand the risks & reasonable efforts are made to protect them. But head hits with no defense is just sad. It reminds us that people who don’t take the risks often exploit those who do."
UFC Boss Dana White recently defended the sport - potentially because he is launching a Power Slap League of his own - where he said that competitors receive "3-5 slaps per event" whereas boxers take "300-400 punches a fight," before adding that if people don't like it, they shouldn't watch it.
Everyone can choose what they do with their spare time, but after seeing Comsa's face it's doubtful that many will be rushing to join any slap leagues.
