Margot Robbie has reportedly become the top-earning female actor in Hollywood.

The Australian sensation has been a big name in tinsel town for the best part of a decade now.

However, it's only with the eye-watering salary from her much-talked-about role as Barbie that the one time Neighbours starlet has rocketed to the top of the highest-paid actor list.

According to a report by Variety, the 32-year-old is being paid a whopping $12.5 million to play the title role in Greta Gerwig's hotly anticipated live-action Barbie movie.

Despite being the highest-paid female actor on the list, Robbie is still nowhere near to being the top-earning actor in Hollywood. The Australian actor still trails behind male stars like Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Brad Pitt.

Cruise tops the list thanks to a $100 million paycheck from his box office topping success Top Gun: Maverick, while Will Smith holds second place with an estimated $35 million earned from his upcoming action flick Emancipation.

Meanwhile, the second-highest paid female actor just behind Robbie is 18-year-old Stranger Things star Millie Bobbie Brown, who has reportedly cashed in $10 million for her role in Netflix's Enola Holmes 2.

Gerwig's Barbie is set to hit cinemas next summer. Robbie stars as the iconic Mattel doll alongside Ryan Gosling, who is playing Barbie's renowned boyfriend Ken. Will Ferrell, America Ferrera and Sex Education star Emma Mackey will also appear in the much-anticipated movie.

While exact plot details are still tightly under wraps, Robbie has hinted that viewers should "expect the unexpected" when it comes to seeing her legendary interpretation of the iconic doll.

Chatting to British Vogue about the upcoming film, she explained: "The role comes with a lot of baggage and a lot of nostalgic connections. But that comes with a lot of exciting ways to attack it."

"People generally hear 'Barbie' and think, 'I know what that movie is going to be', and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, 'Oh, well, maybe I don’t,'" she added.
