Melania Trump statue unveiled in Slovenia has left people stunned (for the wrong reasons)

Having a statue erected in your image is typically an honor of the highest order, but in the world of modern (and often bizarre) art, this isn't always the case.

Case in point, this new statue of First Lady Melania Trump, which has just been unveiled in her hometown of Sevnica in Slovenia, and it has left people around the stunned... for all the wrong reasons.

Now, as the first lady of the United States, Melania Trump is one of the most recognizable people on the planet, but despite this, the statue bears no obvious resemblance to the 50-year-old former model.

Instead, the statue which is bronze and features a raised hand could quite literally be anyone.

The statue was erected to replace a wooden effigy which had been set alight by vandals on July 4.

In a statement cited by the Sun, Slovenian Police said the damage caused by the fire was being considered "damage to property which is a criminal offense."

The original sculpture, which was also of Melania, was created by Artist Ales 'Maxi' Zupevc was designed with Melania's now-iconic blue dress that she wore to Trump's 2017 inauguration in mind.

However, its replacement, created by American artist Brad Downey, is made of bronze to prevent it from being set alight again.

As per the Sun, the new statue has a plaque that reads: "Dedicated to the eternal memory of a monument to Melania which stood at this location."

Needless to say, people on social media had a lot to say about the new statue of Melania.

One Twitter user compared the new statue to the infamous painting of "monkey Christ", sharing a picture of the notorious painting and writing: "Scarily realistic... they've caught her personality and the way the eyes follow you around the room. It's a masterpiece, this is obviously where they got their inspiration."

A second sarcastically wrote: "Looks just like her."

A fourth commented: "Love the big gash where they took out her heart. so realistic!"
