Earlier this week, on Tuesday, November 10, Melissa McCarthy took to Instagram to talk about 20 Days Of Kindness with her 8.9 million followers, which was launched by HBO Max on behalf of the release of their new movie Superintelligence.

Essentially, as part of the project, HBO Max is donating $20,000 to 20 different charities and is urging fans to give what they can.
One of the charities on the list was Exodus Cry, a Christian organization that aims to bring an end to sex-trafficking.
However, as explained by McCarthy in an apology video posted to Instagram yesterday, (November 13), "upon proper vetting [Exodus Cry] stands for everything we do not" and HBO Max has promptly removed the charity from the list.

"Hi there. It has come to our attention that our 20 Days of Kindness, which is a kindness hub that we started to shine a light on 20 great charities, had one in there that… there's no other way to say it, we blew it," McCarthy began.
"We made a mistake and we backed a charity that, upon proper vetting, stands for everything that we do not. So I want to thank everyone on social who said, 'What are you doing? Are you sure you want to back this?'"

"Because the answer is no, we do not. We have pulled it. We are so incredibly grateful for you ringing the bell and helping us be better. We're sorry for our mistake. Oh boy, are we sorry for it. Can't believe that we missed it."
"I want to say, I hope this doesn't ding the other charities because they're really doing some amazing things," Melissa concluded. "Let the kindness continue, and thank you. Thanks for the help, we really needed it."

As reported by the Daily Beast, Exodus Cry, as opposed to merely being an anti-sex trafficking group, actually aims to put a stop to all sex work, even that which involves fully consenting adults.
The outlet also revealed that the founder of the group referred to abortion as a "holocaust" and said that homosexuality is "an unspeakable offense to God."

The organization reportedly has ties with a pastor who had once described Hitler as a "hunter" that God sent because Jewish people did not accept "grace."
It has also been reported that Exodus Cry was founded by individuals who have links to a right-wing conservative Christian organization, the International House of Prayer.
