Angela Bassett missed out on a Best Supporting Actress award last night, and Michael B. Jordan took to the stage alongside Jonathon Majors where they offered her a few words of support.

Hollywood's top stars gathered last night as awards season drew to a close with the Oscars, with the eyes of the world curious as to who would take home the prestigious prizes.

The evening belonged to Everything Everywhere All At Once as it claimed best picture, alongside a handful of awards such as Best Actress for Michelle Yeoh and Best Supporting Actor for Ke Huy Quan.

Jamie Lee Curtis, nominated for her first-ever Oscar, took home the Best Supporting Actress award over Hong Chau for The Whale, Kerry Condon for The Banshees of Inisherin, Stephanie Hsu for Everything Everywhere All At Once, and Angela Bassett for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

It was Bassett's reaction to losing out on the award that got people talking, with some commenting on her apparent refusal to clap and the fact she showed very little emotion.

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: "Angela Bassett's reaction to Jamie Lee Curtis' name being called…you can tell how much that Oscar would have meant to her. she is, was, and always will be incredible. I better see her on that stage SOON."

Michael B. Jordan took to the stage with his Creed III co-star Jonathon Majors to present the award for Best Cinematography.

As the pair took to the stage, they offered words of support to Bassett by looking at her as Majors stated: "Hey Auntie, we love you."

Jordan verbally agreed with the sentiment in regard to his Black Panther co-star. The Creed actor portrayed Erik Killmonger in the MCU movies, the nephew of Bassett's Queen Ramonda.

Other users also took to social media to voice their support of Bassett after she came under fire for not applauding Curtis on her win.

One person said: "I’m glad she didn’t fake a reaction to entertain idiots telling us how a Black woman should handle Hollywood once again throwing awards at White women. I like Jamie Lee Curtis but she didn’t outperform Angela Basset or Stephanie Hsu."

If Bassett did win the award, she would have made history as the first performer to do so based on a performance in a movie from the MCU.

There is speculation that the Academy doesn't look too favorably on superhero movies, but this is merely rumors and nothing concrete.

Last year Joaquin Phoenix won the Best Actor award for his performance as the Joker, which is less of a superhero movie but still a character from a comic book series. Heath Ledger famously won an Oscar for his performance of the same character.

Despite being some of the highest-grossing films in history, it appears that superhero movies don't do it for the Academy.
