A Major League Baseball star has slammed United Airlines after a member of staff allegedly made his wife get on the floor to clean up the mess made by the couple's two-year-old daughter.
Flying can be a stressful event at the best of times, but when there are children in tow it can make it all the more difficult.
Anthony Bass, a pitcher for the Blue Jays in the MLB has taken to Twitter to express his distaste over how his wife was treated on a recent flight.
Bass penned: "The flight attendant @united just made my 22 week pregnant wife traveling with a 5 year old and 2 year old get on her hands and knees to pick up the popcorn mess by my youngest daughter. Are you kidding me?!?!"
While we know that children often make a mess wherever they are, a debate broke out in the comments of the tweet about whose responsibility it is to clean up.
One person questioned: "Genuinely curious who should clean up the mess your 2 year old made? As a parent of three kids I am the one responsible for them."
A reasonable question, to which Bass replied: "The cleaning crew they hire!"
United Airlines gave a standard response that they wish to look into the incident and that Bass should contact them with further information.
Though it would seem that not everybody was sympathetic towards the baseball player, as one person wrote: "Won't lie, the fact that the flight attendant had the guts to make the passenger clean up their own MESS kinda makes me wanna fly United more."
Given that short-haul flights often have a quick turnaround time before the plane has to take off again, extensive cleaning is not always possible for the crew.
Another user clarified: "The flight attendant was making sure the next passengers had a tidy seating area for their flight, but Karen thinks they should get down on their hands and knees to clean up after everyone’s kids or get fired."
A person who has a bit more experience in the field wrote: "A flight attendant is there for safety, not to pick up after you or your children. As a former flight attendant, I speak from experience."
"I have three kids, just flew coach 12 hours, and was able to clean up after them — for every mess. It’s called parenting. Do you expect park janitors to clean up after your pet? No; Your child, your responsibility," another penned.
As per the New York Post, during his 12-year career, Bass has pitched for the Padres, Astros, Rangers, Cubs, Mariners, and Marlins.
He has appeared in seven games so far this season, earning a 7.11 ERA (earned run average) in 6 ? ? innings.
Despite traveling with kids being tough, it would seem that Bass's outrage hasn't been taken too well and his tweet appears to have backfired.
Maybe it'll be best to just clean up your own kid's mess without a fuss in the future...
