Rapper-of-the-moment Lil Nas X, who catapulted into stardom with his mega-hit Old Town Road, has appeared to come out as gay.

The 20-year-old appeared to announce the news via his Twitter account, which called on his fans to pay close attention to a lyric in his song C7osure from his new EP entitled 7 EP. Yesterday marked the final day of Pride Month, and in his tweet, Lil Nas (real name Montero Hill) wrote: "some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone fwm [f*** with me] no more. But before this month ends I want y'all to listen closely to c7osure."

C7osure begins with the words: "True say, I want and I need to let go, use my time to be free" before the lyrics in question at the end of the song go:

"Ain't no more actin', man that forecast say I should just let me grow.
No more red light for me, baby, only green, I gotta go.
Pack my past up in the back, oh, let my future take ahold.
This is what I gotta do, can't be regrettin' when I'm old."

And in addition to this, Lil Nas later tweeted a picture of one of his performance sets kitted out in LGBTQ+ colours, saying: "deadass thought I made it obvious."

The reaction has largely been supportive; such as one tweeter who wrote: "Ik what you're talking about and I accept you bro, everyone should tbh you coming out shouldn't change people's views about you cause at the end of the day you're still the same lil nas X we all know and love!"

Lil Nas X's Old Town Road has topped the US charts since April, and his EP is currently at No. 2 in the charts, behind the new album from the Raconteurs.
