Macy Gray has addressed her recent comments about trans women.
The Grammy award-winning artist was hit with backlash earlier this week over comments she made during her appearance on Piers Morgan's TalkTV show.
As reported by the New York Post, the 54-year-old shared her thoughts about trans individuals, adding that a woman is a "human being with boobs and a vagina".
"As a woman, just because you go and change your parts doesn’t make you a woman, sorry,” she told Morgan. "If you want me to call you a ‘her’, I will. Because that’s what you want but that doesn’t make you a woman just because I call you a ‘her’ and just because you got a surgery."
Check out Gray's comments below:Gray did state during the interview that she did support transgender rights — but did not support trans women competing against cis women in sports.
The singer's comments saw her receive a lot of criticism on social media, and she has now addressed her comments in a new interview with Hoda Kotb on the Today show.
The 'I Try' star revealed she never meant "to hurt" anybody with her comments, before adding: "I think it takes a lot of courage to be yourself, to go out in the world and be honest about who you are. And so I think anyone who is in the LGBT community is a hero and sets an example for all of us."
Now check out Gray's latest interview on Today:She continued: "So, I said some things that didn’t go over well, but my intention was never to hurt anybody. I feel bad that I did hurt some people."
"It's about education, it's about conversation," Gray said, before describing the backlash as a "huge learning experience."
"You can call yourself whoever you believe you are and nobody can dictate that for you or take that away from you," she continued. "I’ve learned so much. Being a woman is a vibe and it’s something I’m very proud of and something that it is very precious to me.
"I think that if you in your heart feel that’s what you are, then that’s what you are regardless of what anybody says or thinks. I’ve learned a lot and I'm glad I did, because now I know."

In a statement to Entertainment Tonight, the artist said her comments on Piers Morgan's show were "grossly misunderstood" and assured people that she has no hate for anybody.
