It's fair to say that women dominated the 63rd Grammy Awards last night.
In a socially-distanced ceremony held at an anonymous marque outside the LA Convention Center on Sunday (March 14), Beyoncé and Taylor Swift both managed to make history after the two artists smashed records with their latest releases.
According to BBC News, Queen Bey broke the record for most Grammy wins by a female artist with her 28th win for Best R&B Performance, overtaking former record-holder Alison Krauss.
In an emotional acceptance speech, Beyoncé stated: "As an artist, I believe it's my job and all of our jobs to reflect the times.
"It has been such a difficult time so I wanted to uplift, encourage, and celebrate all of the beautiful black queens and kings that continue to inspire me and inspire the whole world."
Beyoncé continued: "This is so overwhelming. I've been working for my whole life, since nine years old, and I can’t believe this happened.
"This is such a magical night. Thank you so much. I know my daughter is watching, two daughters and my son, y’all are all watching. Congratulations Blue."
Indeed, Beyoncé and Jay-Z's nine-year-old daughter Ivy Blue Carter managed to win a Grammy of her own, becoming the second-youngest winner in history after picking up the award for Best Music Video category with her visual and song 'Brown Skin Girl.'
Beyoncé added: "[Ivy Blue] won a Grammy tonight. I'm so proud of you, and I'm so honored to be your mommy, all of your mommies. Y'all are my babies. And I'm so proud of y'all. I love you so much, my rock. Enjoy your night. Thank you."
Not to be outdone, Taylor Swift now holds the illustrious honor of becoming the first female artist ever to win Album of the Year three times thanks to her lockdown album Folklore - after previously winning AotY with Fearless back in 2010 and 1989 back in 2016.
In a speech of her own, Taylor thanked her boyfriend Joe Alwyn and Blake Lively for all their help and support, stating: "Joe [...] is the first person that I play every single song that I write, and I had the best time writing songs with you in quarantine."
She continued: "I want to thank James, Inez, and Betty and their parents [Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds] who are the second and third people that I play every new song that I write but mostly, we just want to thank the fans.
"You guys met us in this imaginary world that we created, and we can’t tell you how honored we are forever by this. Thank you so much, and thank you to the Recording Academy. We will never forget that you did this for us. Thank you so much."
