It seems as though Netflix has got some serious explaining to do after the streaming platform recently canceled a fan-favorite show.

Created by Simon Barry who also served as an executive producer and showrunner, Warrior Nun is an American fantasy drama that tells the story of an orphaned teen who discovers she now possesses superpowers as the chosen 'Halo-Bearer' for a secret sect of demon-hunting nuns.

It stars the likes of Alba Baptista, Thekla Reuten, Lorena Andrea, and Olivia Delcán - and with an all-star lineup like that, you would naturally assume that it would pique the interest of viewers.

And spoiler alert: it did, but unfortunately, it just wasn't enough to get it renewed for one more season.

Deadline reported that the series has officially been canceled by Netflix after two seasons.

According to viewing data, the second season of the series spent just three weeks in the top 10 rankings on the platform, peaking at number five. As for the amount of time viewed, the show debuted at 26.22 million hours before peaking in week two with 27.74 million hours. However, it quickly fell to number nine in week three, with 11.97 million hours viewed before completely dropping off the list.

Despite this though, Warrior Nun still managed to get a 100% viewer rating on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as garner enough attention from viewers to develop a stable and passionate fanbase, so it's no wonder social media users have taken to Twitter to let their anger be known at the news of its cancelation.

Taking to Twitter after finding out the disappointing news, Simon Barry expressed his appreciation for the fans that supported the show.

"I’ve just found out that @netflix will not be renewing #WarriorNun - my sincere appreciation to all the fans who worked so hard to bring awareness to this series, and for the love you showed me, the cast and the whole production team. It was a privilege to be a part of this."

Baptista, who portrays Ava on the hit show, also posted a message to fans describing Warrior Nun as a "special chapter" in her life.

"Working on Warrior Nun was a very special chapter of my life. Thank you to the cast and crew for giving everything they had. Thank you to the fans that loved and supported us. I see you and I love you. It was all for you.

"I’m forever grateful," she tweeted.

The shock decision comes a month after the series released its second season. The first season hit our screens back in July 2020 and shortly after, in August, the announcement of a second season followed.
