Olivia Rodrigo has opened up about her rumored "feud" with Taylor Swift following the release of her sophomore album.
When the 20-year-old singer rose to fame with her debut single 'Drivers License', she stated several times that the 33-year-old 'Love Story' songstress was one of her biggest inspirations in music. This led to the two musicians forging a friendship of sorts.
However, the pair raised eyebrows after Rodrigo gave Swift and her long-time collaborator Jack Antonoff retroactive co-writing credits and 50 percent of the royalties for her track 'Déjà Vu' as it interpolated the 33-year-old's 'Cruel Summer'.
The 'Get Him Back' hitmaker also gave the two artists retroactive writing credits for her song '1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back' as the tune interpolated Swift’s New Year’s Day.
This led fans to speculate that there's bad blood between the two - with some even claiming that the young singer's lead single 'Vampire' was about Swift.
But in a new Rolling Stone interview to promote her second album titled Guts, The High School Musical: The Musical: The Series actress insisted there is no truth to the claims about her and the 'Shake it Off' singer.
"I don’t have beef with anyone. I’m very chill. I keep to myself. I have my four friends and my mom, and that’s really the only people I talk to, ever. There’s nothing to say," she said. "There’s so many Twitter conspiracy theories. I only look at alien conspiracy theories."
In addition to Swift's credits, the Sour star also gave Paramore a writing credit for her smash hit song 'Good 4 U,' but it is unclear whether she was forced to give the artist credits after the release.
Rodrigo said she was "a little caught off guard" at the time, adding: "It was very confusing, and I was green and bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Is that the phrase?"
"It’s not something that I was super involved in. It was more team-on-team. So, I wouldn’t be the best person to ask," she continued, before saying she wouldn't demand credit from a younger artist.
"I don’t think I would ever personally do that," she explained. "But who’s to say where I’ll be in 20, 30 years. All that I can do is write my songs and focus on what I can control."
In any case, Swift appeared to quash any rumors of a feud with the young singer by cheering for her at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards last night (September 12).
While the Grammy-winning star has not directly commented on the speculations, she was seen applauding for Rodrigo when her performance was announced.
Check out part of Olivia Rodrigo's performance at the VMAs:Fans were pleased to see her happy reaction to the Disney actress as one user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote: "Y’all can stop fighting. the nonexistent beef has been squashed," and another commented: "Wait this video of Taylor Swift clapping extra hard when Olivia Rodrigo was announced could finally be the thing to end the beef rumors for good omg…"
Looks like all is well between the two chart-topping stars!
