As reported exclusively by PEOPLE, Arkin's sons Adam, Matthew, and Anthony offered the following statement: "Our father was a uniquely talented force of nature, both as an artist and a man. A loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather, he was adored and will be deeply missed."

Arkin was born in New York in 1934 and dropped out of at least three colleges after he finished high school.

After finishing his education, the actor embarked on a journey into the world of music, where he sang and played guitar for a folk group called the Tarriers, which produced a top-five single called 'The Banana Boat Song' in 1957.

Following this short stint as a musician, Arkin turned his attention to acting where he found himself in Chicago and part of the Second City improvisational comedy troupe.

Following this, he made his debut on Broadway in From the Second City in 1961, and this was followed up by Enter Laughing in 1963, for which he secured a Tony award.

Over the next decades, Arkin made a name for himself in both the television and movie industries starring in major motion pictures such as Edward Scissorhands, Marley and Me, and Argo.

Arkin left the Kominsky Method in 2021 before its third season, as he explained to the Guardian: "Acting is so ingrained in my physiognomy and the channels of my brain that I find myself missing aspects of the business. But I don’t need it any more. I should probably get over it."

Our thoughts are with Arkin's family, friends, and fans at this time.
