Owen Wilson has spoken out about his 2007 suicide attempt.

In a new interview with Esquire, the Loki star candidly opened up about the pressures of life and how his older brother helped him after he attempted to take his own life 14 years ago.

The new feature, titled 'Owen Wilson Is Doing Great, Thanks', saw the 52-year-old actor spend three days with Esquire editorial director

Using movies and fellow actors as a metaphor, Wilson said: "Sometimes life seems to be played by Tom Hardy in The Revenant, some nightmarish guy trying to kill you, where even if you get the upper hand, he’s still going to be there at the end whispering, 'this ain’t gonna bring your boy back' or your dad back or any good times from your past back."

He added: "And when life’s being played by that guy, you just gotta hang on and wait for it to pass."

In the feature, D'Agostino writes about how Wilson did not "talk much about his own close encounter with death", but that the actor did speak about his older brother, 56-year-old actor Andrew Wilson, helping him in the aftermath.

According to D'Agostino, Andrew stayed at Owen's house following his younger brother's suicide attempt.

Wilson reportedly told D'Agostino that Andrew would wake up with his brother each morning, and write up "little schedules for each day so that life seemed at first manageable".

Over time, Wilson revealed that the schedules went from "manageable" to "good".

Speaking about when he first thought about death, Wilson said: "Death - that kind of landed with me when I was about eleven [...] I do remember one time saying to my dad—and I remember exactly where in the house—saying, 'I worry about dying', and seeing my dad turn away and catch himself."

Per Page Six, Wilson was rushed to hospital in August of 2007 after his other brother, Luke, found him after a suicide attempt.

Fortunately, the Loki star told D'Agostino that he is now "in sort of a lucky place" and that he is "feeling pretty appreciative of things".

"I know everything’s kind of up and down, but when you get on one of these waves, you’ve gotta ride it as long as you can. … Feeling pretty grateful," Wilson said.
