Pamela Anderson has revealed she had quite a different life plan before becoming one of the world's most iconic bombshells - she was considering becoming a nun or a librarian instead!

The former Playboy model, 55, became one of the biggest stars of the 90s thanks to her starring role on Baywatch and her nude photoshoots in the men's magazine.

Her relationships with famous stars - most notably with Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, who she married four days after meeting and shares two children with - further propelled her to stratospheric levels of fame, particularly after a sex tape of the couple was stolen from their home and leaked.

However, life could have looked very different for Pamela, had she pursued her more sedate childhood dreams.

During a new interview on the Drew Barrymore Show, she revealed that she had never planned to become a sex symbol, instead planning to join the nunnery.

She explained: "I wanted to be a nun or a librarian. And I kind of took a different route. I don't know what happened."

Pamela added: "I was at the library every day – I was at story time every day and I really wanted to be a librarian, and then I thought, 'No, I really wanna be a nun.'"

The Barb Wire star's journey to becoming a world-renowned model actually ended up happening by chance, when she was spotted at a BC Lions Canadian Football League game in Vancouver in 1989.

She was featured on the Jumbotron while wearing a Labatt's Beer T-shirt and was so popular with the crowd that they kept showing her during the game, which in turn led to the brewing company to hire her as a spokesmodel.

Pamela's career ended up skyrocketing from there, with Playboy making her a cover star for their October 1989 issue, which led to a long career with the magazine, and she has since appeared on more Playboy covers than any other model.

She was famously open about the plastic surgery she had undergone, having had breast implants to create her trademark hourglass figure.

However, as well as all the highs, Pamela also addressed the low points in her life in her recent Netflix documentary, Pamela: A Love Story.

In it, she spoke of the impact the stolen sex tape had had on her life, leading to the break-up of her marriage to Tommy Lee, who she described as the only man she had truly loved.

She also spoke about the sexual assaults she had faced as a child, and how she reclaimed her power by posing for Playboy.

The actress also addressed the recent Hulu drama Pam and Tommy, which was based on the backstory of the couple's stolen sex tape, and how the real-life incident had affected their lives.

She had been publicly against the series being made, and vowed never to watch that or the original sex tape, which she says she has never seen.

Pamela explained in the documentary: "I blocked that stolen tape out of my life in order to survive and now that it’s all coming up again, I feel sick.

"I want to take control of the narrative for the first time."

Pamela's documentary is available on Netflix, and her biography Love, Pamela is also out now.
