The internet has become Luigi-obsessed following the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
It's only been a few days since the latest rendition of the iconic Super Mario movie was released and it already seems to be a hit at the Box Office.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, The Super Mario Bros. Movie shattered "numerous records" in its debut across North America and 70 international markets over the long Easter holiday weekend.
Over five days (April 5-9), the film managed to earn $204.6 million - a total of $146.4 million just across the three-day weekend. The outlet also reported that the stats looked just as great for overseas, with numbers adding up to a whopping $146.4 million, taking the grand total to $375.6 million.
Check out the trailer:With numbers of that caliber, it's no surprise to hear that the movie ended up smashing multiple Box Office records including the biggest worldwide opening of all time for an animated film. The Super Mario Bros. Movie beat out the global debut of Walt Disney Animation’s Frozen 2 which came in at $358 million in November 2019.
It's also the second-biggest domestic opening as well as the second-biggest international opening for any animated film and just to add the cherry on top of an already impressive cake, the movie has also managed to secure the top spot for both the biggest video game adaptation and the biggest opening of 2023 as of right now.
Despite it being being done multiple times before, fans just can't seem to get enough of the Super Mario brothers and their quest to rescue Princess Peach from the grips of the evil Bowser. While you would assume Mario, who is voiced by Chris Pratt, is stealing the limelight, things have taken a slight turn as Luigi, voiced by Charlie Day, has seemingly got fans in a chokehold thanks to his dashing good looks.
The animated character has been hailed as "good looking" online, and some people have gone as far as describing him as "hot" - yeah, those animations have really leveled him up.
Taking to Twitter, fans shamelessly expressed their attraction to the cartoon plumber.
"Luigi is so hot," wrote one user while another questioned the same thing... and we actually get it.
A third user confirmed that this shouldn't be a controversial take as "Luigi is hot as f***."
And the comments didn't stop there. In fact, they got slightly weirder.
"They didn’t have to make Luigi so hot and submissive," this user tweeted.
Another decided to label him as "sexy" and the girls that get it, get it. And the girls that don't, don't. It's that simple.
No wonder the movie's done so well. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go and give it another watch.
