Robert Irwin showed the world what a gentleman he is when an American tourist tried to get his number.

But while Robert won nothing but praise for the exchange, the persistent tourist has been called out by people who think she needs to learn to take a hint.

In a now-viral TikTok video posted on Wednesday, the 18-year-old son of the late Steve Irwin can be seen going about his day at the Australia Zoo when TikToker Megan Grass tells him he is "so cool."

"I was wondering if I can have your number," she asked.

Looking a little flustered, Robert replied: "Well, I'm very flattered. Where are you visiting from?"

Megan tells him she's from Utah in America, and Robert chats with her before letting her know the easiest way to get in touch with him is over social media.

"I'll tell you what the easiest way [to contact me] is on Instagram because then my people can monitor it and see when it comes through because my number is getting mixed," he explained.

But Megan wasn't about to let him get away that easily, and she persisted, telling Robert: "Well, I actually DM'd you last night to tell you I was coming here today."

The zookeeper responded sweetly, promising to look her message up after finding out her name.

Megan shared the clip to TikTok, captioning it: "tiktok do your thing @Robert Irwin #fyp#australiazoo #crikey." So far, the video has racked up over 6.8 million views and thousands of comments from viewers who praised Robert's sweet reaction - and called out Megan's "desperation".

"He’s just like his dad so sweet and precious," one person commented. Another hinted to Megan: "He said no in the nicest way," while a third agreed: "Bro (in the most polite way) said 'no.'"

"He’s trying to turn you down so politely. Just let it go," a fourth wrote.

In a follow-up TikTok, Megan made it clear that she had gotten the message - but didn't let that stop her from shooting her shot.

The video is a clip from an Australian news program, where Megan has appeared to talk about how Robert rejected her. "I was rejected in the sweetest way possible," the TikToker joked in the interview, making it clear there were no hard feelings on her part.

When asked if she had a message for the young zookeeper, Megan seized her opportunity to let him know she was still up for getting to know each other better.

"I would just tell Robert thank you so much for being so sweet about it," she said, adding: "I think he's honestly such a cool guy, and if he's ever in need of someone to hold a koala I'm his girl."
