Rob Lowe has commemorated 33 years of sobriety with a reflective and inspiring post.

The 59-year-old actor has been candid about his struggle with alcohol and substance abuse, which occurred after his Hollywood breakout in the 1980s with films such as St. Elmo's Fire and The Outsiders.

In honor of the special milestone in his recovery, Lowe took to Instagram to share an uplifting message about his road to sobriety for the last three decades.

He encouraged those who are currently battling addiction to not give up and accompanied the post with a selfie of him floating in the ocean with a beautiful sunset behind him.

The 9-1-1 Lone Star actor wrote: "33 years ago today I found recovery and a tribe that has sustained me on my incredible, grateful journey."

"My life is full of love, family, God, opportunity, friends, work, dogs, and fun. If you or someone you know is struggling with any form of addiction: hope and joy are waiting if you want it, and are willing to work for it," he added.

Many of the star's 1.9 million followers flooded the comment section with congratulatory and supportive messages. His son, John Owen Lowe, wrote: "Proud of your recovery," and then quipped: "Opposite feeling about this selfie." Actress Gwyneth Paltrow also penned: "We are so proud of you. We love you so much."

One fan shared a similar landmark, writing: "I celebrated 30 years a week ago. It’s still the best decision I’ve ever made…I wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t gotten sober."

While another supporter praised: "Wow that sunset is insane! Thank you for being so transparent and sharing your journey Rob. You have inspired so many as you walk the walk. You are so deserving of all the joys in your life. Your commitment to being your best self in all you do is admirable."

Last month, the actor presented his 28-year-old son - who is also an actor - with a five-year sobriety chip during an episode of The Drew Barrymore Show.

The pair were promoting their Netflix series, Unstable, and bonded over their respective sobriety journeys on the talk show. The 48-year-old host applauded the father and duo for their openness and stated that she is also honest with her children about her past battles with alcohol abuse.

"I've been really honest with my kids who are younger, but they know my story, they know I can't drink, it's not for me, it doesn't work for me," she said. "They know my pitfalls and you guys are an incredible family unit that supports each other through every high and low."

The elder Lowe agreed that they do the same, and said that they are "able to share recovery" details with one another. He told the audience that his son has been in recovery for five years and brought out the five-year chip to celebrate his achievement.

He then presented it to John Owen, heartwarmingly telling him: "I love you, I'm proud of you, buddy." The young Lowe was definitely taken aback by the lovely gesture and embraced his dad before saying: "That's so sweet. Speechless. I usually have a witty retort, I don't have one for that. That was very nice of you."

Congratulations to them both on their milestones!
