Robert Pattinson has been photographed in Liverpool, England filming the funeral scene for his much-anticipated role in The Batman.

The Twilight star could be seen wearing a long, black coat as he played Bruce Wayne, shielding under a black umbrella outside the city's St George's Hall.

It appeared to be a funeral scene because the extras were pictured carrying flowers and dressed in dark mourning clothes.

Other extras were dressed as members of the Gotham City police department and protestors were photographed holding signs that read: "Lies, lies, lies" and: "Our day of judgment".

Filming on The Batman was finally able to resume last month after it was postponed as a result of the ongoing pandemic.

Variety and Vanity Fair also reported that Pattinson himself tested positive for Covid-19 just days after filming on the superhero movie resumed, causing it to once again be halted.

As per Vanity Fair, Warner Brothers refused to comment on who had tested positive for the virus and shared the following statement: "A member of The Batman production has tested positive for Covid-19, and is isolating in accordance with established protocols. Filming is temporarily paused."

However, the news outlet claimed to have access to a "well placed" sourced who informed them that it was Pattinson who had contracted Covid-19.

Filming on The Batman also took place in Glasgow earlier this year, but it too was halted because of the pandemic.

As a result of the delays, the release date for the movie has been postponed from June 2021 to October 1, 2021, the Belfast Telegraph reports.

Directed by Matt Reeves, the film will see 34-year-old Pattinson step into the shoes of other acting legends who once played the Dark Knight including Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, Val Kilmer, Michael Keaton, and George Clooney.

The Batman will also feature Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Jeffrey Wright as Gotham City's police chief Commissioner Gordon.

The movie will follow Batman as he is in his second year of vigilantism, which sees him attempt to solve a series of gruesome murders.
