Sarah Harding left a heartbreaking message on her final social media post before her tragic death at 39.

The Girls Aloud singer's mom confirmed the sad news that Harding lost her battle with breast cancer on Sunday, September 5.

Before her tragic passing, she took to Instagram to tell her fans she was giving all the proceeds of her song 'Wear It like A Crown' to the NHS.

In the tear-jerking post, she wrote: "I actually came across a song I'd recorded about ten years ago. I've always really loved it, and it made me feel a bit sad that no one ever got to hear it.

"I mentioned this to my team and they said we could release it, and I thought 'why the hell not?' It's called Wear It Like A Crown."

She went on: "I've literally no idea how this all works anymore, but on the off chance it generates any profit, I'll give it all to the Christie NHS Foundation @christiecharity where I'm receiving my treatment.

"If you've read my book you'll know just how amazing the Doctors, Nurses, and all the staff at The Christie are. They are actual angels."

Sarah's fans bought the empowering single in their droves sending it straight to number one on iTunes.

Expressing her gratitude, the singer wrote: "OMG. I can’t believe it. Number one on iTunes. I’m a bit overwhelmed, but so so happy. Thank you thank you."

In a message to her daughter's fans, Harding's mom shared the tragic news of Harding's passing, writing: "It’s with deep heartbreak that today I’m sharing the news that my beautiful daughter Sarah has sadly passed away.

"Many of you will know of Sarah’s battle with cancer and that she fought so strongly from her diagnosis until her last day. She slipped away peacefully this morning.

"I’d like to thank everyone for their kind support over the past year. It meant the world to Sarah and it gave her great strength and comfort to know she was loved. I know she won’t want to be remembered for her fight against this terrible disease – she was a bright shining star and I hope that’s how she can be remembered instead."

Earlier this year, Harding said she was told by a doctor she will probably not be alive next Christmas.

In an extract of her memoir, titled Hear Me Out, Harding wrote: "In December my doctor told me that the upcoming Christmas would probably be my last.

"Comfort and being as pain-free as possible is what's important to me now."

Harding said she was "trying to live and enjoy every second of my life, however long it might be".
