Selena Gomez doesn't often need to do too much to command our attention, but a recent Instagram post has generated a ton of passionate reactions.
With 425 million followers, the 'Same Old Love' sensation lies behind only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the third most followed person on Instagram, so, naturally, any of her activities stir a lot of engagement.
But when the 30-year-old singer and actor took to the platform two days ago to share her pre-tanning routine, the internet almost came to a standstill.
Captioned, "@dolceglow tan before I tan", Gomez's post has already amassed over eight million likes in just over 48 hours. Not only that but more than 52,000 comments have been left underneath the pair of pictures the Only Murders In The Building star shared.
One Instagram user commented: "The earth got hotter after this post" while another said: "Mother is Mothering".
Of course, no viral post from a major celebrity is complete with the customary 'breaking the internet' remarks, and they have been coming thick and fast for Selena's pre-tan ritual, with one reply saying, "This one is about to break the internet" and another adding, "Queen of Instagram just broke the internet".
Given that Gomez's posts can command as many as 20 million likes, eight million seems like relatively small fry in comparison to some of her other bangers, but that doesn't mean the replies have been any less enthusiastic than usual.
The images on the recent post appear to be screenshots taken from TikTok, where Gomez also has an enormous following of almost 59 million users. Her TikToks have already racked up more than 570 million likes.
Gomez's social media activity recently caused a few eyebrows to be raised for a different reason, however, when she unfollowed Zayn Malik, Bella and Gigi Hadid, and Zendaya. It was believed at the time that this was linked to the 30-year-old being in a relationship with Malik back in March although those rumors were never substantiated.
A source stated that the unfollowing didn't mean anything and was not a personal vendetta against anyone.
“There are absolutely no hard feelings with anyone she unfollowed,” an insider told People.
