Instagram has been slammed for allowing a nude photo posted by Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee to remain online for hours.

Outraged social media users are accusing the platform of double standards, claiming it isn't as lenient when it comes to female nudity.

On Thursday morning (August 11), the 59-year-old rocker took to Instagram to share a decidedly NSFW snap of himself to his 1.4 million followers.

The photo showed Lee sitting entirely naked, with his tattoos - and his genitals - on full display. "Ooooopppsss," the caption the snap.

Despite the fact that the photo was a clear infringement of Instagram's community guidelines, the social media platform took over five hours to remove it from the site, per the New York Post.

Many users were not happy and took to Twitter to blast the platform for not taking the post down sooner, claiming that women and LGBTQ people have far less raunchy images censored a lot quicker.

"Tommy Lee's d*** pic was on Instagram for 5+ hours before being pulled yet queer artists get banned all the time for art that doesn't even show genitalia," one person tweeted.

"Girls can’t post photos with cleavage on Instagram without it being taken down but Tommy Lee can post THAT. nah," another wrote.

"Women's accounts get banned on #Instagram for just showing nipples and yet #TommyLee can post a full frontal d*** pic and not get into trouble. The double standards," added a third.

Per their community guidelines, Instagram does not permit: "Photos, videos, and some digitally-created content that show sexual intercourse, genitals, and close-ups of fully-nude buttocks."

The guidelines explain this also includes: "Some photos of female nipples, but photos in the context of breastfeeding, birth giving and after-birth moments, health-related situations (for example, post-mastectomy, breast cancer awareness or gender confirmation surgery) or an act of protest are allowed."

Nudity in photos of paintings or sculptures is also allowed by the social media platform.

This is not the first time Lee has made headlines with footage of his naked body. In 1995, an explicit personal home video of the rocker and his then-wife Pamela Anderson went viral online, causing a scandalous media sensation.
