When you're demonstrating how to do something, sometimes you can demonstrate too well, and when what you're demonstrating is a boxing technique, that can end up being pretty painful.
Don't believe me? then take the following clip as a cautionary tale. This weekend, boxing champion Sam Maxwell was left red-faced and black-eyed after he accidentally punched himself while giving his fans and followers a live demonstration of an uppercut.
Have a look at the painful footage in the video below:The European super-lightweight champ has still been training hard and long in the midst of the coronavirus lockdown, and thus he elected to share a live-stream of his routine with his fans.
In the aforementioned footage, Maxwell can be seen vigorously attacking a punching bag, jabbing and smacking it heartily, before he hit it so hard that he ended up hitting himself. Collapsing to the floor, the boxer took a while to recover from his self-inflicted injuries and abruptly cut the live stream short.
However, Maxwell clearly saw the funny side of things, and later he shared the embarrassing moment online, captioning the post: "My Instagram Live workouts are canceled until further notice."
In a recent interview with Boxing News Online on the subject of his career, Maxwell stated: "I'd been on the [Great Britain] squad for a long time. I'd been through some highs and lows. I'd had some really good times but by the end of it, I knew I was out of a chance to go to the Olympics. My form was a downer, I was stuck in a rut a little bit."
He continued: "I wasn't pushing myself training. I just switched off. As soon as I turned pro, I rekindled that fire a little bit, and I wanted to prove to everyone that it's just what I needed... confidence plays a big part in how I perform."
