Olympian's 'insane' reaction to first look at his bride has people demanding she cancels the marriage
Team USA sprinter Noah Lyles has faced criticism from fans after his reaction to seeing his bride's dress on their wedding day.
Lyles, 28, tied the knot with long-time partner and fellow sprinter Junelle Bromfield on April 4, two years on from proposing.
The three-time Olympic medallist is no stranger to going viral, with fans unimpressed with his showboating during the 2024 Games in Paris.
Despite his off-track antics, he is one of the fastest men in the world, taking home the gold in the 200m at the same Games.
He's also called out other American athletes for calling themselves "World Champions" after winning a national title, using the NBA as an example.
Lyles is now back in headlines for all the wrong reasons, as he had an odd response to seeing his wife's bridal gown, just minutes before walking down the aisle.
Noah Lyles' response to the wedding dress
Lyles married Bromfield in Trento, Georgia, on April 4, with the latter sharing snaps and videos of their special day online.
But it was one video that caused the biggest reaction, and it has garnered millions of views across social media platforms.
In it, Bromfield, 28, goes up to Lyles and taps him on the shoulder so he can turn around and see her in her wedding down for the first time.
After turning around, he saw his beaming wife-to-be in a bejeweled ball gown, and said: “Oh wow, okay.”
Before any compliments landed, Lyles laughed and added: “I didn’t think you would go with a princess dress. Yeah, this is good.”
Reactions from viewers
Taking to X, one user commented: "I have not seen the full video until now and… it really is as bad as everyone said it is. Was it so hard to compliment her? Omg."
Another said: "As an overthinker, this reaction would ruin my whole day."
"Did I miss him say, ‘You look beautiful’?" a third pointed out.
A different critical viewer claimed: "Guy doesn’t have an ounce of class. She looks beautiful."
“He laughed directly in her face,” a stunned user said. “Good luck, sis.”
“A simple, ‘You look gorgeous’ would’ve worked,” another stated.
Many believed that Lyles' reaction was a red flag, but some seemed to be more understanding.
"Bantering in love is not so bad. He sounds nervous as hell," one pointed out.
One other social media user added: "I don’t see anything wrong with this. People react to things differently.
"They look so comfortable together, I’m thinking best friends. He complimented her towards the end."
Junelle Bromfield addresses the haters
The Olympian said that Lyles shouldn't be called out for his reaction, as she explained: “In that moment, that reaction that I got from Noah is exactly what I needed because he tried to make me happy.”
She revealed that a number of her family members, including one who was set to make a speech, were denied travel visas into the US for her special day.
Bromfield said that her husband's playful reaction at their first-look ceremony was an attempt at cheering her up.
She added: “He tried to make me talk because if he did not do that, I would probably be shut off that whole wedding because I was processing so much disappointment mentally and emotionally.”
The sprinter said her appearance "did not matter" at the time, as she stated: “What he gave, I truly appreciate.
“If it takes somebody saying that you’re not beautiful to call off an engagement or a marriage, like, [the relationship] wasn’t worth anything,” she told followers.
