Viewers of the Olympics have been quite taken by the appearance of a Canadian athlete and have demanded a DNA test.

The Olympics have certainly been entertaining so far, with Simon Biles continuing to add to her impressive medal tally, a bee upstaging the archers, and people spotting the Italian Eminem.

Oh and the sports... obviously.

Now attention has turned to a Canadian hammer-thrower, and although he won gold, people are talking about his appearance.

Ethan Katzberg has also found himself in the spotlight for his distinctive look.

Fans have speculated about his heritage, prompting some to joke that he should undergo genetic testing.

Katzberg, known for his thick moustache and long, curled mullet, hails from Nanaimo on Vancouver Island's east coast in British Columbia.

Though, presumably based on his moustache and hairstyle, some have declared that Katzberg could be Australian.

"Nah I want a DNA test this man is clearly Australian," one person posted with an image of the athlete underneath.

A second person said: "Yep, the haircut alone does it. Business in the front, outback out back."

A third person offered some knowledge on the subject, saying: "I live in french canada and when I visited australia I realized they were the same countries with different accents."

While we're on the subject of judging an athlete on their hair, Simone Biles had similar treatment but not in a light hearted way.

While Biles' athletic prowess and gravity-defying moves captivated the world, a few individuals seemed more concerned with her hairstyle.

One critic wrote: "I’m just trying to figure out why Simone Biles hair never done? Like girllll come on. STILL LOVE HER AND HOPE SHE DOES GREAT!"

Another added: "Simone Biles = flawless. Her hair, not so much."

In response, Biles took to social media, addressing the fixation on her hair. Alongside a clip of herself fanning on the team bus, she wrote: "Don’t come for me about my hair. IT WAS DONE but bus has no AC and it’s like 9,000 degrees. Oh and a 45-minute ride."

She further emphasized: "Gonna hold your hand when I say this. Next time you wanna comment on a Black girl’s hair. JUST DON’T."

This is not the first time Biles has addressed comments about her hair. In an interview with Elle earlier this month, she said: "We [Black women] have been able to take care of our hair better and take care of our beauty routines better, because it’s self-taught.

"It’s really special that we have access to those platforms. I used to worry about [my hair being considered] not professional. But I’m not embarrassed about it anymore."

Biles also expressed her sadness over the criticism coming predominantly from her own community.

"Most of the backlash we get is from our own community, which is unfortunate. I don’t really care if my edges aren’t smooth," she shared.
