Tragic details have been revealed about the death of former world champion boxer Ricky Hatton at an inquest.

The Manchester-born boxer died on September 14 at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, and at the time police confirmed that his death was not being treated as suspicious.

Hatton was revealed to have died from hanging, the inquest into his death heard.

Stockport Coroner’s Court heard that the provisional cause of death was hanging, and that Hatton himself had last been seen by family on September 12 and ‘appeared well’.

Two days after that last sighting, Hatton’s manager Paul Speak attended the former boxer’s house to take him to Manchester Airport for a flight to Dubai, but found him ‘unresponsive’ inside.

He immediately called emergency services.

The inquest has been adjourned until March 20 next year.

Hatton's son Campbell - himself a former boxer - appeared on UK TV show This Morning to discuss his father's death.

Campbell spoke candidly about his dad's mental health struggles, telling the presenters: “It’s something that we spoke about for quite a long time, even before my dad passed away.”

Ricky's funeral was attended by celebrities from the world of boxing and beyond, with former champions Frank Bruno, Tyson Fury, and Tony Bellew in attendance.

Thousands of mourners lined the streets of the local area to pay tribute to the beloved star, and his cortege stopped outside his local pub, as well as his boxing gym, and the AO Arena, site of one of Hatton’s finest victories against Kosta Tszyu in 2005.

His daughters also shared their own tribute to their late father.

13-year-old Millie said: My heart is in a million and one pieces that you aren’t here with me and everyone else who loves you dearly.

“I wake up every morning wishing you were here.

I can’t help but think about how you will never walk me down the aisle, how you will never meet my children and your grandchildren, that you won’t be here to see me leave school and you won’t even see me grow into an adult.”

Ferne, 12, added: “I can’t believe that you are not here anymore, and that I have only known you for 12 years.

“Even though I have only spent 12 years of my life, knowing the strong and inspiring person you are.

“I’m having to realise that you will be out of my life more than you have been in it.”
