Lauren Murphy was left looking unlike her usual self following an intense fight in the UFC Octagon on Saturday night.

In fact, Murphy's beating was so brutal that many viewers took to social media to criticize the referee for not calling an end to the bout sooner.

The 39-year-old American MMA star - who is currently recognized as the fourth-ranked women's flyweight fighter -was sadly involved in a very one-sided fight when she stepped inside the Octagon with former UFC strawweight champion Jessica Andrade at UFC 283.

And Andrade's dominant performance over Murphy was certainly reflected in the judges' scores, with the judges giving her a pair of rare 30-25, and another scoring 30-26 for the Brazilian.

But after being left bloodied and swollen during the fight, it wasn't long before viewers and fellow MMA stars were questioning whether or not the fight should continue.

Former UFC Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier said at the end of the second round: "I don’t know if I’d stop this fight," with commentator Jon Anik asking: "What are we trying to accomplish by going another five?"

Shortly into the third round, it become apparent to Cormier that Murphy was no longer able to effectively defend herself.

"The ref has got to stop it," Cormier said. "He looks like he wants to, just do it man."

Anik agreed, later adding: "[Referee] Osiris Maia may want to get in there."

To which, Cormier replied: "But [Maia] won’t. I’m sitting next to [UFC matchmaker] Mick Maynard and Mick’s saying what does he need to see. This fight could have been stopped a long time ago."

Sadly, by the end of the fight, Murphy ended up looking like this:

Over on Twitter, other MMA stars agreed, with UFC heavyweight fighter Tanner Boser writing: "That was f**ked. Andrade is a monster and Lauren Murphy is one of the toughest humans alive which made that even more rough."

"Mad props to Lauren Murphy for finishing that fight but her corner should have thrown in the towel," Bantamweight Cub Swanson added.

UFC veteran Siyar Bahadurzada then replied: "I’d throw in the stools, one of the cornermen, my shoes and shirt too."

Retired UFC middleweight and light heavyweight icon Michael Bisping simply tweeted: "Throw the towel in."

Viewers then questioned the lack of involvement from the referee and Murphy's corner, with one viewer writing: "People will hate this, but Lauren Murphy's corner should stop this fight. She has no avenue to success and she's taking brain damage for 0 reason. Sometimes you just don't have it. This is one of those times."

Another added: "That referee, Osiris Maia, is incompetent and Lauren Murphy’s corner are delusional for not stopping that fight at any point."

As you may have guessed, Andrade went on to win the bout with an overwhelming scorecard.

Andrade is now celebrating three back-to-back wins, following victories over
