People have been left in awe after a video shows how far away Olympic archers are away from their target.

If you're like me, then you're very easily influenced by whatever sporting event is on TV and you want to run out of your front door and find a place to practice it.

At the minute I'm convinced I could become a rower but I dare say that boat might have already set sail... if you'll pardon the pun.

But one event I won't be trying is archery, not because it isn't cool, but because the target seems almost impossible to hit for the average person.

If you've ever watched the archery on TV you'll know that the camera angles often show the athletes firing their arrows before quickly cutting to the target to see where they hit.

But for those in the stands watching the event happen in front of them, it's a very different experience entirely.

One video doing the rounds on X shows that our perception of how close the target is might be way off because it's really far away!

Yes - Yes, it is.

Check it out:

If you're interested in the exact distance, the Olympics website explains that they actually shoot up to 70 meters (using a recurve bow) - which is almost 230ft - or 50 meters when using a compound bow.

"Archers shoot up to a distance of 70 meters (for recurve) and 50 meters (for compound) in standard competition. Archers aim at the five-color target, consisting of 10 scoring zones in gold, red, blue, black, and white rings," they explain.

"The innermost yellow rings score 10 and nine points, red rings score eight and seven, blue rings score six and five, black rings four and three, while the outermost white rings score two and one points."

One person on X summed up my thoughts exactly by saying: "I think archery is the perfect example of an ‘I could do that!’ Olympic sport when, in actual fact, 99% of us couldn’t even reach the target, never mind hit it."

A second person said: "The TV coverage is incredibly bad at getting this across. Just hilariously bad. They film just the archer's face and the target. They could be 2m apart or 3 miles apart and you really can't tell."

While a third added: "We went to the archery at Lords in 2012 and were blown away by the distance they have to shoot over having to take any breeze into account. Amazing skills."

Archery is another sport I can put on the list of sports I'll never be good at.
