Actor Oh Yeong-su - who famously starred in the hit Netflix series Squid Game - has been indicted on charges of sexual misconduct.

According to Korea JoongAng Daily, the 78-year-old star was indicted on the charges without detention over an allegation that he inappropriately touched the body of a woman in 2017.

The victim reportedly filed a complaint against the star in December 2021 but the authorities closed the case in April this year without filing any charges.

However, the prosecution has now restarted the investigation as the victim appealed the police's decision. During the prosecution's investigation, Yeong-su was reported to have denied the allegations, per Korean pop culture outlet Soompi.

Yeong-su was indicted on November 24 by the Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Prosecutor's Office. An indictment means that he is expected to go to court for the accused charges made against him.

According to South Korean television network JTBC, the Golden Globe winner has commented on the allegation, saying: "I just held her hand to guide the way around the lake. I apologized because [the person] said she wouldn’t make a fuss about it but it doesn't mean that I admit the charges."

In addition to this, an official from the Suwon District Prosecutor's Office also said that everything reported by local media on Yeong-su "is not factually incorrect," per France24.

Nevertheless, the prosecution believes that they have secured evidence to support the allegation of harassment and transferred the case to trial.

Yeong-su , whose real name is Oh Se-kang, majored in theater at Dongguk University and debuted as an actor in 1963. He made his first appearance on the silver screen in 1965's The Seashore Village and may also be known for his role in the 2003 movie Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring.

However, he was largely known for his theater work until he was cast as player No. 1 - also known as Oh Il-nam - in the hit show Squid Game.

The series became the streaming network's most popular series launch ever, drawing 111 million fans in less than four weeks after debuting in 2021.

Yeong-su won a Golden Globe in the category of Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Supporting Role for his role in Squid Game in January this year.
