Steve-O has spoken out over Amy Schumer's controversial joke about late Jackass co-star Ryan Dunn.

Rumors of a row between Steve-O and Schumer first came to light after the comedian appeared as a roaster on the September 2011 Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen. One of her most talked-about lines from the night was when she referenced the recent loss of Steve-O's friend, Dunn, who passed away in a car accident earlier that same year in June.

"I truly am, no joke, sorry for the loss of your friend, Ryan Dunn," Schumer began. "I know you must've been thinking, 'It could've been me,' and we were all thinking, 'Why wasn't it?'" she added.

The joke was met with audible groans from the audience. Steve-O in particular did not seem to take it well and had looked visibly uncomfortable at the mention of his late friend.

In the aftermath of the roast, many fans called Schumer out for the gag, saying it was insensitive to laugh about Dunn's death so soon after his fatal accident. Steve-O himself made some scathing comments about the comedian at the time, saying she was "two-faced" and that he had "zero respect" for her during an appearance on The Big J Show.

However, in a recent episode of his podcast 'Steve-O's Wild Ride!', the star made it very clear that he regrets how he handled the situation - and that he does not want Schumer to face any more flack over the ill-advised joke

"Let's be clear that Amy Schumer was not saying anything disparaging of Ryan Dunn. The thing was that there was nothing wrong about what she said," he said.

"I think she caught a lot of grief for that," the Jackass star continued, adding: "I myself got carried away in all the grief that was being thrown at her, and I at one point reached out to her to just try to say, 'Hey. I'm not proud of how I handled the situation. I was a jerk and I contributed to it.'"

"We made everything real nice, and now whenever I see Amy Schumer getting grief for that to this day, I don't like it. I don't think she deserves it and it bothers me," the concluded.

Steve-O recently reunited with much of the original Jackass family for their fourth feature film, Jackass Forever.
