A colorist working for DC Comics has revealed that he will be leaving the publisher following recent changes made to Superman.
Speaking during a YouTube livestream hosted by Cyberfrog creator Ethan Van Sciver on October 13, Gabe Eltaeb bemoaned what he sees as classic comic characters being "ruined".
When reflecting on the fact that Superman's motto was altered to remove the reference to "the American way", the 'Superman: Son of Kal-El' colorist said, per Fox News: "I'm finishing out my contract with DC. I'm tired of this s**t."
He added: "I'm tired of them ruining these characters; they don't have a right to do this."
Touching on his disdain for the change to Superman's slogan, which has been revised slightly from "Truth, Justice and the American Way" to "Truth, Justice, and a Better Tomorrow", he said:
"What really p***** me off was saying truth, justice, and a better world. 'F*** that, it was Truth, Justice, and the American way.
"My Grandpa almost died in World War II; we don't have a right to destroy s*** that people died for to give us. It's a bunch of f****** nonsense."
Elsewhere in the livestream, Eltaeb told viewers: "I'm sorry I didn't say anything sooner, we're going to stand up to these tyrants and we're not going to let them intimidate us there's a hell of a lot more of us than there are of them."
Eltaeb continued: "They call us bigots and racist and s**t, I would ask them, find me in the f***ing mainstream, not on the fringes, one f****** book, one f****** t-shirt, one movie that says that leftism is bad, and conservatism is good, find it for me, they f****** won’t they’re not letting people have a voice, they’re the f****** bigots."
On October 11, which is National Coming Out Day, the new Superman, Jonathan Kent, was revealed to be bisexual in the new DC Comic, Superman: Son of Kal-El. Jonathan Kent is the son of the original Superman, Clark Kent, and Lois Lane.
Comic enthusiasts will be able to see how his coming out plays out in the November 9 issue.
