'Supernatural' star Nicki Aycox dies aged 47

Nicki Aycox - best known for her role as Meg Masters on The CW's Supernatural - has sadly passed away.

While no cause of death has been confirmed, the 47-year-old actress's death was announced on social media by her sister-in-law, Susan Raab Ceklosky, who said that Aycox had passed away on Thursday (November 17).

Aycox fought a devastating two-year battle with leukemia and documented her courageous fight on her Instagram page - which goes by the handle @cashewandolives - by sharing updates on her health.

The Jeepers Creepers star wrote in her Instagram bio that she was "about to have stem cell transplant #2" and also shared her last poignant post in late March, where she was seen joyfully singing from her hospital bed after a chemo session.

When the Supernatural star initially fell ill, she thought she had covid - but was later told by doctors that they had found cancer. After, she underwent chemotherapy and stem cell treatment, according to Daily Mail.

Following her death, Aycox’s sister-in-law shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, writing: "My beautiful, smart, fierce, incredibly talented, and loving sister-in-law, Nicki Aycox Raab, passed away yesterday with my brother, Matt Raab, by her side."

"Nicki and Matt had a wonderful life together in California," Ceklosky wrote, adding. "She was definitely a fighter and everyone who knew her loved her."

Supernatural creator Eric Kripke also paid tribute to the actress with a sincere social media post on Sunday (November 20), writing: "Gutted to hear the great #NickiAycox, our first #MegMasters, passed away. Too young."

"She was a delight and delivered lines like honey and venom. I marvel at how she made a simple word like 'lackluster' legendary," he concluded, adding a gif of her blowing out candles as the beloved Meg Masters.

Aycox was born in Hennessey, Oklahoma, in 1975 and spent her childhood performing in pageants and playing the piano. She studied briefly at the University of Oklahoma before moving to Los Angeles, California to pursue her acting career.

She is best known for portraying the demon and human vessel character in the first and fourth seasons of Supernatural. Her last appearance on the series came in a season five episode through archival footage.

The actress' TV and film credits also include guest-starring roles in Weird Science, L.A. Heat, 3rd Rock From the Sun, USA High, and Boy Meets World.

Furthermore, she had a seven-episode arc as Lily Gallagher in Providence along with starring in The X-Files, Ally McBeal, and Dark Angel while filming movies like Crime + Punishment in Suburbia, Rave McBeth, and Jeepers Creepers 2.

Aycox also featured in Dark Blue as Jaimie Allen and her final roles before retiring from acting were the 2014 films The Girl On the Train and Dead on Campus.

In her last few years, the former actress released her debut EP, Red Velvet Room, which contained five original songs, and acquired a following through her healthy eating and vegan lifestyle website Cashews and Olives.

Aycox is survived by her devoted husband Matt Raab.
