The new season of Australian Survivor has got off to a scary start after two contestants from the same team were hospitalized during the first challenge.

Returning stars Jackie Glazier, 49, and 'King George' Mladenov, from the Villains tribe, both sustained injuries while attempting an obstacle in the first immunity challenge during Monday's (January 30) season premiere.

The pair were required to leap on top of two rotating boxes before rolling into a puddle of mud and moving on to the next section.

Many of the players employed a safe technique that saw them flip off the boxes and allow them to land on their backs in the pit of mud, rather than their heads which could have resulted in serious injury.

However, both George and Jackie failed to execute the landing as they embarked on the course together. The host Jonathan LaPaglia had to step in and call for medics after seeing the teammates struggle to even stand up.

According to News.com.au, the duo was absent for the rest of the episode and the 53-year-old host later disclosed that Jackie had broken her collarbone and would not be returning to the game.

The outlet added that George appeared to have banged his head on the landing and that his return remains undetermined until doctors assess him.

After the two players were taken off the show, the host presented the Villain tribe with the option of calling off the tribal council - which is the elimination ceremony - so that no one would be sent home.

However, the Villains urged LaPaglia to read the votes and eject another member of their team - despite being two players down against the Heroes tribe so early in the game.

The first player to be voted out was the former CNN journalist and Real Housewives of Melbourne star Anjali Rao - who was stunned when she realized that her team had voted her out first.

"I was really all for reading out the votes - we’re not here to play it safe, let’s rip the scab off this bad boy! I was pretty surprised," the 49-year-old told the outlet of her elimination. "When you see your name written on those cards over and over again, it is a horrible feeling."

The former anchor also revealed to the publication of the "terror" she and her tribemates felt when George and Jackie got injured earlier in the episode.

"It was terrifying. We all saw what happened, but then we had to continue on with the challenge after that, which really gave people the heeby-jeebys."

"I think a lot of people thought, 'Oh my god if two people go over that challenge at the same time - and they both end up in hospital – what’s going to happen to me?'" she added.

Australian Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains will continue to air on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday.
