Sylvester Stallone has hinted that a new Rambo movie could be on its way on Instagram.

Despite fans of the franchise previously being led to believe that Rambo: Last Blood would be Stallone's final portrayal of the action hero, he has hinted that this might not be the case on Instagram.

If you haven't seen it yet, this is the trailer for Last Blood:

Promoting the release of the film's extended cut on iTunes, the actor teased a potential Rambo return to the big screen and said that the extended cut shows the character's "the real journey" in the movie.

It features an additional 12 minutes of footage, including an entirely new opening sequence.

Captioning the extended addition's poster, Stallone wrote on Instagram: "'SEE THE REAL JOURNEY' - 'YOU JUST DON’T TURN IT OFF!!!!' MAKE IT #1 THIS WEEKEND! ( He could be back ) Much respect, Sly."

In case your memory needs refreshing, in Last Blood, Rambo is enjoying his seemingly peaceful retirement on his family's ranch in Arizona and spends his days looking after the granddaughter of a family friend named Gabrielle.

But when Gabrielle is kidnapped by Mexican drug cartels, he must return to his old ways.

Last Blood marked Stallone's fifth portrayal of Rambo, having first stepped into the character's shoes back in First Blood in 1982, which was based on the novel of the same name written by David Morrell.

This comes after Stallone confirmed that a 'Demolition Man 2' is in the works back in May.

During a Q&A session with his 12 million Instagram followers, one fan asked about the possibility of a sequel to Demolition Man, to which Sly replied:

"I think there is. We're working on it right now with Warner Bros. and it's looking fantastic. So that should come out, that's going to happen."

Check out the Q&A session below:

Opening in the year 1996, Demolition Man tells the story of LAPD Sgt. John Spartan (Stallone), a risk-taking police officer who will do whatever it takes to stop psychopathic criminal Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes).

After the pair are involved in a fatal hostage situation, they are both cryogenically frozen indefinitely. However, the chaotic Phoenix is accidentally released in 2032 - during a time of stringent peace, where even swearing is a finable offense.

In an effort to stop the madman, Lieutenant Lenina Huxley (Sandra Bullock) has Spartan thawed and put on the case.
