Taylor Swift has ripped into Blur frontman Damon Albarn after he claimed that she "doesn't write her own songs" in a recent interview.

Gorillaz star Albarn, 53, recently spoke to Los Angeles Times when he was asked his thoughts on some of today's chart-topping music artists.

When asked about his thoughts on Taylor Swift's music, the 'Song 2' hitmaker simply said: "She doesn’t write her own songs."

After being told she co-writes some of her songs, Albarn elaborated on his answer: "That doesn’t count. I know what co-writing is. Co-writing is very different to writing. I’m not hating on anybody, I’m just saying there’s a big difference between a songwriter and a songwriter who co-writes."

It wasn't long before Swift took to Twitter to slam Albarn for his "f**ked up" claim.

"I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write ALL of my own songs," she wrote.

"Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really f**ked up to try and discredit my writing. WOW."

In a follow-up tweet, the 'All Too Well' singer added: "PS I wrote this tweet all by myself in case you were wondering."

The Blur frontman has since responded to Swift on Twitter, issuing a groveling apology.

"I totally agree with you," he began. "I had a conversation about songwriting and sadly it was reduced to clickbait. I apologize unreservedly and unconditionally."

"The last thing I would want to do is discredit your songwriting. I hope you understand. - Damon," he wrote.

Swift's fans have since slammed Albarn for blaming his comments on "clickbait", saying his words weren't taken out of context because they were published as direct quotes.

One fan wrote: "Music taste is subjective, but saying Taylor Swift doesn’t write her own songs is simply an ignorant lie. And this from the man who gave us such insightful lyrics as 'woo hoo' and also 'woo hoo'."

Another added: "'Clickbait' is when a quote is taken out of context in order to get readers to click a story. The context here is that Albarn said Taylor Swift didn’t write her own songs, was CORRECTED BY THE REPORTER, and doubled down lmao."

While a third wrote: "Dude it's not clickbait if you SAID IT."
