We live in a world of different body types, but unfortunately many people still feel immense pressure to conform to certain ideals of what we 'should' look like.
This is something that plus-size model Tess Holliday learned all too well after a dress that she was shamed for wearing at the Grammys suddenly became fashionable after it was worn by slim people on TikTok.
"I like how this dress had me on worst dressed lists when I wore it in January to the Grammys, but now bc a bunch of skinny ppl wore it on TikTok everyone cares," Holliday wrote in an Instagram post four days ago. "To sum it up: our society hates fat people, especially when we are winning."
The 35-year-old then thanked designer Lirika Matoshi and her stylist Meaghan O'Connor for making her "feel like a princess 7 months ago."
Holliday had no idea that her dress had gained viral popularity until she was directed to a Twitter thread by a friend.
In an interview with Vulture, Holliday revealed: "This person was like, 'I find it really ironic that Tess wore this dress at the Grammys in January, and no one gave a s*** until slender people on TikTok were wearing it.'
"I looked, saw that it was in fact trending. I really started to examine, 'Well, why is this so popular now? Why are people acting like it's new?' That's when I started to get a little frustrated."
The comments section of Holliday's Instagram post was flooded with messages of support from her 2.1 million followers.
One wrote: "Worst dressed!?!!! Laughable. You look DIVINE."

A second wrote: "Ooh yass You are killing it in that dress [sic]."

A third added: "Ummm you're a delish strawberry tartlet, don't let anybody bust a berry."

"Thanks for the love y'all & to everyone that was rude as hell, thanks," Holliday subsequently wrote on Twitter alongside a winking face emoji.
She added: "Hey everybody, I wasn't expecting the post about my strawberry dress to blow up the way it did. Thank you to everyone who has shared my post in solidarity. Like it or not, please understand that just because you have never been shamed for your size, doesn't make it less valid."
Per Yahoo! News, the strawberry dress retails for $500 and it is available in sizes extra small to triple XL, which the designer's size chart estimates is suitable for a US size 18 to 20.
