It took a whopping 156 takes for Tobey Maguire to successfully execute the iconic canteen scene in 2002's Spider-Man movie.
The details behind Tobey Maguire's lunch tray scene in the original Spider-Man film have resurfaced following his iconic appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home alongside fellow web slingers Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield.
The scene in question is no doubt an iconic moment in the 2002 movie as it's where we see Peter Parker coming to grips with his new powers.
Check out the iconic scene below:
It shows Maguire sitting in a cafeteria while his longtime crush Mary Jane (played by Kirsten Dunst) walks past him and slips on some liquid on the floor.
In a desperate bid to save his love interest from getting hurt, Spider-Man races to stop her from falling while also masterfully catching her lunch tray and all of the items that were on it.
But because we're used to seeing slick CGI in movies these days, it's easy to assume this was all done on a computer. Well, movie lovers - think again.
It was revealed in the DVD's commentary that this scene was done without CGI, meaning that Maguire actually did manage to pull this stunt off.

According to Inside the Magic, Spider-Man director Sam Raimi fought Sony to keep the scene in the film because the studio thought it would take too long and too many resources to get it right.
Eventually, Tobey managed to perfect the shot.
Special effects artist John Dykstra told Metro: "This gag when he catches all this stuff, he actually did that... take 156!"
In another commentary Kristen Dunst, who played MJ in the trilogy of films, also confirmed John’s revelations, adding: "No CGI, that's all Tobey, they put sticky glue stuff to stick his hand to the tray."

On the DVD commentary to the iconic classic, Dykstra explained how Maguire "actually catches all this stuff," The Independent reported.
Unsurprisingly, filming this scene took an impressive 16-hour day of filming, despite Sony having not originally been that keen about including the scene.
