Say the name "Tom Hanks" and the response will most likely be: "I love him!" Time and time again the Hollywood great has proven his acting prowess in movies like Castaway, Forrest Gump, Sully, Philadelphia, and Sleepless In Seattle - earning him two Academy Awards and seven Primetime Emmy Awards.

Though, not everyone apparently agrees with this, after they slammed the actor following his appearance on The Graham Norton Show last week.

The 66-year-old was a guest on the popular British talk show alongside Naomi Ackie, Susanne Jones, and Richard Osman - and was promoting his upcoming movie A Man Called Otto. Hanks plays a grouchy 60-year-old widower who strikes up a friendship with his neighbor.

His son, Truman, will also star in the movie as a younger version of Hanks' character, a role that Hanks allegedly told his son he would have to work for.

"Truman plays my character's younger self, but he's not the actor in the family - he's an artist and is going to be a cinematographer. We talked about it a lot and it was all his choice, but I said to him, 'No matter what your last name is, you are going to have to hit the marks,'" he said.

Check out his appearance on the show:

Norton then asked the actor if he liked releasing his "inner grouch," to which Hanks replied it felt "fantastic." He then proceeded to animatedly explain to the other guests how he can be grouchy and grumpy at home, describing how his family often knows that he's about to "boil" and tell each other: "Uh-oh, dad is boiling."

His enthusiastic description evidently left some viewers "boiling," with one person writing: "Tom Hanks - great actor and great person, ostensibly. But not the most favorite of Graham's guests to watch. It seems like he tries too hard!"

"Why does everyone love Tom Hanks? Never understood that. There's something off about him, AND very egocentric I must say...he redirected a lot of what others were saying back to him [...]," another person added.

"Tom Hanks still creeps me out," another comment read.

Someone else chimed in with: "I can't stand Tom Hanks….on movie or live!"

Other users disagreed, however, and commented their praise for the actor - like one user, who wrote: "And see that's why he's a great actor, because it was simple for him to get into character, even though it's something that he does we've seen many on this show that needs a switch over second."

"Tom Hanks is really one of us. God I love him," another person added.
