Tom Hanks is one of the most decorated actors of our time, having appeared in many of our favorite movies - from Forrest Gump to Philadelphia, and Cast Away to now showing up in Elvis.
Of course, with all that acting comes great praise, something that the 66-year-old is surely used to receiving in abundance. However, according to him, he apparently doesn't think he receives enough of it for one of his most "incredibly important" flicks.
Hanks appeared on the ReelBlend podcast last week to discuss his latest movie, A Man Called Otto, as well as his glittering career (hey, you'd be bragging too if you'd won two Oscars!) in the entertainment industry. His latest movie - focused on a grumpy widower who strikes up an unlikely friendship with his pregnant neighbor - has already received stellar reviews.
However, during the interview, Hanks appeared to want to shine the light on one of his lesser-known movies, and he evidently had a lot to say about it.
"For one reason or another, no one references Road to Perdition, and that was an incredibly important movie for me to go through," Hanks noted via The Independent, referring to the 2002 gangster flick that also stars Paul Newman, Daniel Craig, and Jude Law. It follows the story of Hanks' character, and how his son witnesses a murder that sets him on the path to redemption.
"It was shot by Conrad Hall, and you have me in it, 'Don Moustache' with a hat on it, but you also have two guys who turned out to be two of the biggest motion picture presences in the history of the industry with Jude Law and [Daniel] Craig. And I killed both of them…", he stated.
"People always say, 'What movies will they be talking about years from now?' As a guy who watches Turner Classic Movies a lot, the more obscure and unknown a movie from the 1940s or 1950s the better, because I have no preconceived notions about it; I don't know anything about it," Hanks continued.
"When you watch those movies and it's crackerjack and it's incredibly moving, all I can think of is, 'I'm so glad this movie lasts forever, so I got a chance to revisit it now.' That might be the case with Road to Perdition."
Aside from his acting, Hanks has dominated recent headlines with his discussion on nepotism, having addressed comments surrounding his influence in securing his son an acting role in one of his latest movies.
"The shoe industry is a family business. The car industry is a family business. I think my kids are all like Renaissance artists, you know? [They] are good at whatever they choose to be. But the question here is, can you make it stick?" he stated via The Daily Mail.
"You've got to have a passion, you've got to have a drive. And yeah, our household has existed in the company town that is Los Angeles. Success is a combination of talent, perseverance, drive, and no small amount of luck."
Well, there you have it! According to Hanks, he isn't receiving enough praise for one of his movies, and his children are simply taking over the family business.
