On Sunday night (June 11), we saw a host of the world's greatest stars take to the violet carpet at the United Palace in New York City to celebrate a year of triumphs on the big stage.
From live theater productions to big-name musicals, the 76th installment of the annual Tony Awards recognized some of the greatest stars, as well as some talented newcomers, for their work over the past twelve months and beyond.
J Harrison Ghee
Dressed in electric blue, Ghee stepped out wearing a gown with a plunging neckline and off-the-shoulder collar. They paired the bold look with shoulder-high gloves and a layered choker around their neck with long, matching earrings.
The actor made history last night after becoming the first openly nonbinary person, alongside Alex Newell, to win Tony awards for their role in Some Like It Hot.
"Thank you for the humanity. Thank you for my incredible company who raised me up every single day," Ghee said in their speech.
Ariana DeBose
Hamilton star and the host of the event for a second year running, DeBose rocked up wearing a baby pink Prada gown with a deep V-neckline that stopped just above her navel.
The dress was foiled, a print that was appropriate given the glamorous nature of the event.
Jessica Chastain
Jessica Chastain brought about some much-needed sunshine to the event in her three-toned Gucci gown with a long cape.
As reported by Vogue, the star's dress was punctuated by the Italian label’s High Jewelry necklace made of white gold, emeralds, diamonds, and a 35.9-carat mandarin garnet.
Vibrant with a hint of class - we love to see it.
Betsy Wolfe
Following Chastain's lead was none other than Besty Wolfe in a stunning purple ensemble. The feathered gown contained a thigh-high slit as well as a massive train which left fans gagging for more - a truly stand-out 'fit at the Tony Awards.
Utkarsh Ambudkar
Utkarsh Ambudkar showed everyone he could pull anything off (except for those gold slip ons because those are hideous) in this gorgeous mustard tweed suit.
And this one is about the details; the purple nail polish, the DJ disc accessory and that super cute bowtie. We stan.
Josh Groban
Now, what else could we expect from Josh Groban but a timeless masterpiece such as this deep burgundy suit? It may be simple, but the added embroidery down the blazer paired with a matching black shirt underneath makes for a nice combination.
Dylan Mulvaney
Dylan Mulvaney may be the talk of social media right now but she's also the talk of the Tony Awards and for good reason too. Check out her off-the-shoulder Christian Siriano gown with a mesh center. And we can't not talk about the blonde bob, right? It's the violet-carpet debut of the year.
This, along with Betsy Wolfe's outfit, might be one of my favorites of the entire night.
Lupita Nyong'o
Lupita Nyong’o stunned crowds and she stepped out in a black suit with a bold, silver breastplate designed by the Pakistani designer Misha Japanwala.
"[Japanwala’s] work is rooted in the rejection and deconstruction of external shame attached to one’s body," the Black Panther star wrote on her Instagram page. "In her artistic process, she creates a realistic and true record of a person’s body as an act of resistance and celebration, and an insistence on being allowed to exist freely in our bodies."
Bold, but it paid off this time.
Martyna Majok
Now, this gown might look ordinary to most, but to me, it's absolutely stunning. The shape, the detailing and the gorgeous waves in her hair all work in perfect harmony with one another.
It might be a safe option, but 10/10 would wear again- another stand-out look from the ceremony.
James Ijames
James Ijames showed up last night. While the top half of the outfit might be pretty ordinary, the shoes really elevate this look. Not only is the square toe a bold choice in a world full of almond toes, the short block heel as well as the detailed strap along the top make for one hell of a combination.
Kelli O'Hara
Kelli O'Hara looked amazing as she stepped out in this straight style feathered dress. While the halter neck might have been a risky choice, the 47-year-old managed to pull it off.
Julia Lester
Okay, usually a look like this would really make me want to cringe and pass away, but I have to say, Julia Lester really made it iconic. Victorian-core is clearly making a comeback this year and I'm kind of living for it.
Antwayn Hopper
Gingham print, a gold hoop earring, square toe brogues and a neat up do. Sign me the f*** up, Antwayn Hopper.
Jodie Comer
Simple and elegant, Killing Eve star Jodie Comer attended the prestigious night wearing a strapless Thom Browne gown.
The actress also managed to take home her first-ever Tony award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play for her part in Suzie Miller's one woman show, Prima Facie.
Crystal Lucas-Perry
Crystal Lucas-Perry gave us all what we were waiting for on the night - an iconic dress. While yellow tones seemed to be a recurring theme at the event, this satin number stood out amongst the rest just by the fact that it was Lucas-Perry wearing it.
What a woman.
Clint Ramos
And finally we have Clint Ramos, who strutted his stuff on the violet carpet in this pale silver-almost white number. Not only was the open sleeve cape a very clever choice, but the bright gold accessories - which would typically be considered a faux pas in this pairing - really elevated this look overall.
I was caught off guard, but in a good way for once.
