Tributes are flooding in for Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who has tragically passed away aged just 50.

The band announced that Hawkins had passed away in a social media post shared on Friday, March 25, in which they said they were "devastated" by his "untimely loss".

"The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins," reads the statement on the Foo Fighter's official Twitter account, which went on to say: "His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever."

Hawkins is survived by his wife Alison and their three children. The statement goes on to ask that fans respect their privacy while they grieve.

"Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time," it reads.

After joining the Foos in 1997, Hawkins played alongside Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett, and Rami Jaffee for over two decades.

The band was on tour in South America at the time of Hawkins' death. They played in San Isidro, Argentina, last Sunday and were scheduled to appear in Bogota, Colombia on Friday night. No further details about the drummer's cause of death have been revealed yet.
