Hollywood has always suffered from a chronic lack of diversity. Often, it can seem like to have any chance of "making it", you have to fit into a narrow set of parameters, which often neglect racial and body type diversity.
This was recently made all too clear in a tweet that emphasized just how similar six white, beautiful female actresses are - so much so that Twitter struggled to tell them apart.
The now-viral tweet was captioned: "can't believe the film/tv industry thinks it can trick me into believing these are all different actresses and not the same woman at different stages of her life."

Clearly, the tweet by Twitter user @sheereny resonated with a lot of people, and at the time of writing, it has been liked over 150K times and shared over 23K times - her full name is Shereen Shafi, indy100 reports.
Shafi said she was inspired to make the comparison between the actresses after watching the hit Netflix show Sex Education (starring Emma Mackey, who is in the lower middle picture). While the discourse surrounding Margot Robbie's doppelgängers has been around for some time now, but this picture really puts it into context.
In an interview with the news outlet, Shafi said: "I was mostly just having fun, but on a serious note, it is concerning how many similar-looking blonde women we have on-screen when diversity is still so lacking in many ways.
"I don't mean to diminish the unique talents of any of these actresses, of course. But I'm a woman of South Asian descent and I rarely see myself represented at all, especially in American media - and even then we often have to fit a particular 'mold' to be deemed camera-worthy."
Shafi, who is American, said that a lack of diversity in the film industry meant that she ruled out pursuing any kind of career there early in life.
However, Shafi did explain that the image was meant to be lighthearted, as much as it does reflect a more serious issue.

Following much debate over who the actresses actually were (just look at that tweet above!), Shafi was forced to clarify and explain that she arranged the pictures herself.

But this is far from the only series of pictures reflecting the issue of Hollywood's lack of diversity on social media.
This similar group of white male actors, all with very chiseled jawlines, was recently posted to Twitter too.

The problem is so prevalent, in fact, that Buzzfeed suggested that "there are only 9 men in Hollywood", and unsurprisingly they were all variations of white men.
While there is no doubt that Hollywood has a long way to go when it comes to improving the diversity of its talent, it is worth ending on a positive note by emphasizing that steps are being taken in the right direction.
Disney, for example, recently announced its first leading bisexual character.
