Usain Bolt has contracted Covid- 19 after a surprise birthday party.

The 34-year-old revealed that he has come into contact with the virus in a new video posted to social media and warned his 9.8 million Instagram followers to remain vigilant.

In the video below, Bolt says that he has coronavirus:

"This weekend, like everybody else, I checked social media and saw social media say that I'm confirmed of COVID-19," Bolt said.

"I did a test on Saturday to leave (Jamaica) because I have work," he said. "I am trying to be responsible so I am going to stay in and be safe.

"Also, I am having no symptoms, I will quarantine myself and wait on the confirmation to see what is the protocol and to see how I go about quarantining myself from the Ministry of Health.

"Until then, I will call my friends and tell them once they came in contact with me to be safe, quarantine and take it easy."

Jamaica's health ministry later revealed that the Olympian has tested positive for the virus, News.com.au reports.

Following the release of the video, people have been speculating over images of the athlete's 34th birthday party, debating whether or not appropriate social distancing measures were in place.

The surprise party organized by Bolt's girlfriend was attended by Manchester City and England football star Raheem Sterling, Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey, cricket hero Chris Gayle, and reggae singer Christopher Martin.

Local media slammed the bash over the lack of social distancing and the absence of facemasks in pictures posted to social media.

Bolt retired from his athletic career after the World Athletics Championships in 2017. He is widely regarded as the greatest sprinter to have ever lived.
