Former Victoria's Secret model Selita Ebanks has opened up about her rough behind-the-scenes experience working as a supermodel.
During E!'s True Hollywood Story on October 25, Ebanks, now 38, dished on the not-so-glamorous parts of the modeling industry, including the upkeep of a certain body image.
"Modeling for Victoria's Secret, there's a code you have to follow," she revealed.
"There is an expectation to maintain the size, and unfortunately, we are going against Mother Nature. It is not something that's natural, it is not something that should happen. It's tough."
During the special episode, psychotherapist Stacy Kaiser claimed she heard that some models "back in the day" only ate an apple every 24 hours to maintain their figures, and such were just the beauty standards of the brand.
Ebanks went on to explain how the goal for every model was to become an Angel so when she got the job, she considered it to be the biggest achievement in her career.
"I've been on many runways, but, to be a part of the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, for me, was more than just a job. It was the highlight," she recalled.
But, with that level of fame came a new type of pressure. "My life changed drastically, like overnight," Ebanks recalled.
"All of a sudden, people know your name," she continued. "You find out friends that you thought were friends were not necessarily friends."
"A lot of other models didn't think that I was deserving of this contract, so I had to basically fight my way into their circle," she added.
New York Times reporter Jessica Silver-Greenberg, whose exposé 'Angels in Hell' uncovered the dark side of the Victoria's Secret empire, went on to say how she believes the Angels had low self-esteem.
She alleged that "no one wants to hear what they have to say" and claimed even models who felt safe heard problems within the brand.
Ebanks then recalled "one or two times" when things could have been "inappropriate" but said it never came to the point where she felt "disrespected."
"Thankfully I wasn't put in those situations but I'm well aware of what was happening," she claimed. "I've heard horror stories from other young ladies and I have hope that everything done in the dark will come to light."
It comes as former Victoria's Secret model Erin Heatherton opened up about the pressures she felt to stay skinny whilst working with the popular lingerie brand.
Opening up about the drastic measures she took to continue fitting the image, the 32-year-old recalled resorting to "bathwater meth" whilst working for the brand from 2010 until 2013, per People.
Discussing her experience during an appearance on an upcoming episode of the podcast Fallen Angel, produced by C13Originals and Campside Media, where she revealed that she sought help from a nutritionist.
She recalled the nutritionist prescribing her drugs to help her lose weight during her time as a VS Angel.
