Fans of the British Royal family were delighted to see Prince George join his parents for the final of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships on Sunday (July 12).
The eight-year-old heir watched the exciting match between Nick Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic with his mom and dad, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, from their usual seats in the Royal box.
However, while many people were glad to see the young Royal accompanying his parents on official outings, others were concerned that he hadn't been dressed appropriately for the soaring temperatures. Despite a 28-degree heatwave rocking the UK, the young Prince was dressed as he normally is for official public appearances - in a suit and tie.
Shortly after their arrival, George was caught on camera letting his Dad know that he was struggling with the heat. As they were taken to their seats by chairman Ian Hewitt, he told Prince William quietly: "[It’s] too hot."
"Oh you’re hot, are you?" his father replied, adding: "It’s very warm today [ …] It’ll be fine," according to a report by The Sun.
The Duchess of Cambridge added: "You have to feel for the people sitting in the bright sunshine. We’re quite often sitting in the shade."
While his parents appeared to encourage him to put on a brave face, fans had a lot of sympathy for the young Prince on social media. Many took to Twitter to question why he was dressed in a shirt and suit jacket during a heatwave.
"Why is Prince George in a SUIT at Wimbledon on a hot day?" one person tweeted, while another added: "Prince George looks very smart but could he not have been dressed more casually as it’s so hot?"
Another added: "Shocked at seeing little Prince George sitting in a suit and tie in the sun at Wimbledon in that heat yesterday! What are they thinking? Put the child in a T shirt for goodness sake!"
A third tweeted: "Fancy making poor little Prince George wear a suit in this heat. He's a little boy, he should be in shorts and a T-shirt."
And a fourth wrote: "Poor Prince George. Who put a little boy in a full suit and tie in this heat? Absolute madness."
However, other's rushed to defend the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, explaining that wearing a suit was all part and parcel of George's royal duties.
"People don't seem to realise there is a dress code in the royal box and Diana had William dress the same way as Prince George is," one wrote. Another added: "His Parents are easing him into his role, And teaching him to respect the dress code."
"The suit is a uniform, like a school uniform or a military uniform - when you wear it you behave in a certain way. Prince George knows he is on royal duty today," agreed a third.
