Now, I don't know about you, but this is how it goes for many of us: we say that we're only going out for one drink, one drink suddenly morphs into 10 and before we know it, we're
incredibly drunk. Inevitably when we come to, face down on our beds and still wearing last night's clothes, we experience a strange feeling of shame and regret, because god knows what we said or did.
However, sometimes, we get rip-roaringly drunk and don't even leave the comfort of our own homes. And all the excruciating headaches, sore stomachs and lethargy in the world can't stop us from consuming all the tequila our bodies can handle the following Friday, whether we choose to remain on our coaches, watching Netflix, or not. Now, one of the most popular drunken activities, (which you too can do at home!) is to get sloshed, whilst in your underwear. And despite the fact that many of us engage in this pursuit, it is somewhat let down because it doesn't have its own word. Well, not in the English language, at least.
It appears that the Finnish have a proclivity for getting
drunk in their underwear. Well, inhabitants of the European country have their very own word for it at least - and it's kalsarikännit. Feel free to use the term whenever you've had a truly terrible week, your friends are all busy and you have absolutely
no choice but to bust open that expensive bottle of wine you were gifted last year.
And the booze-addled fun doesn't just end there. The people of Finland have even created two Emojis to celebrate the world, so you don't even need to type it out once you've had one too many. You can simply send an emoji of person drinking alone, and another one of a half naked person, and your friends and family will know exactly what you're up to on Thirsty Thursday.
The Emoji's are part of a collection of 56, which have a wider initiative of capturing and documenting some of the more hard to grasp Finnish emotions and words.
And the people of the internet are totally here for it. Upon hearing the news, one Twitter user rejoiced, saying "Gotta move to Finland. They have a name AND an emoji for my favorite past time activity," while another corroborated, "In Finland kalsarikännit means to stay home and get drunk in your underwear. These are my plans for this evening".

Another hilariously added, "Keep your hygge. I'm going for kalsarikännit", while one user urged the whole word to discover the meaning of the term, writing "Google the Finnish term 'kalsarikännit'. You won't regret it."

So for those of us who have engaged in this pastime from time to time, it's certainly a relief to know that it's been given an official name - it just makes the whole thing sound a lot more acceptable, right?
In other news,
apparently drinking alcohol makes you better at speaking foreign languages.
