It's fair to say that, for millions of families all over America, Thanksgiving is not going to be quite the same as usual.
In an effort to halt the spread of COVID-19, and protect vulnerable older people, many families are opting to self-isolate and else host virtual Thanksgiving dinners this year.
This grandma has been having Thanksgiving with a teen boy each year after accidentally sending him a text:However, this week a pair of grandparents have ended up going viral on social media for taking things a step further. Namely, by sending their kids and grandkids a pair of brilliant cardboard cutouts of themselves, to attend their Thanksgiving meal in their place.
According to a report from Good Morning America, the stunt was pulled off by Texas residents Missy and Barry Buchanan, who sent two pairs of six-foot-high cutouts to their grandchildren.
One pair went to Quintin, Oliver, and Clara in Texas, and the other pair to their daughter Mindy Whittington and her three-year-old son Noah over in California.
Per GMA, the kids were delighted with the cutouts and took a number of pictures of them, which have since been shared on Twitter.
Speaking to GMA in a later interview, Whittington stated:
"My mom had told me that she was sending a large package for the Thanksgiving table.
"I didn't think twice about it. I just assumed it was going to be a holiday decoration. We were just in stitches, we could not stop laughing. We were not expecting six-foot cutouts of my parents."
Meanwhile, Missy stated that she's hoping the cardboard cutouts will be included in Christmas dinner next month, and added:
"Family love is not going to change whether we're there or not. It's a reminder that there's still something to laugh about."

But Missy and Barry aren't the only people who have had their Thanksgiving celebrations disrupted by COVID.
In fact, a grandmother who is spending her fifth Thanksgiving in a row along with the man she accidentally invited to dinner four years ago, has decided to celebrate the holiday early this year.
