An Arby's employee has been fired for writing a homophobic slur on a gay couple's receipt.
One half of the couple, Craig Gray, took to Facebook last Sunday (June 6) to share a picture of the receipt that he was handed in an Arby's branch in Lafayette, Indiana.
In the receipt, he and his partner were referred to using a homophobic slur.
He captioned the picture: "So this just happened at Arby's! Happy Pride, huh?"
According to the receipt, the homophobic incident took place one the same day the image was shared on Facebook at around 1:30PM. It also identifies the employee responsible as "manager".
Gray has gone out to lunch with his partner, John Burns, when they noticed the slur on the receipt.
In an interview with WLFI News 18, he said that the message was made all the more offensive by the fact that the employee appeared friendly when they served the couple.
He told the news outlet: "I was shocked, just because the kid seemed like he was new on the job and he was really nice."
Gray said he and his partner immediately asked to speak to the manager after seeing the slur and the employee responsible was fired on the spot.
He continued: "This young man has learned this behavior somewhere. You know, there are some people out there that don't get people out there are like this, and that's wrong."
Reacting to the homophobic slur on Facebook, one commenter wrote: "Sorry someone made the choice to treat u like that.... awful... just keep on keeping on and dont let anyone rain on your parade. No matter what the parade is for!!"

A second wrote: "Some people are born assholes and it sometimes may take an embarrassment like this to change them. At least I hope they did."

Meanwhile, a third added: "Well I know I won't be going to this Arby's."
To which, Gray revealed that the real manager fired the employee responsible on the spot after seeing the slur.

An Arby's spokesperson told WLFI News 18 that the employee's behavior was "unacceptable and not a part of the Arby’s brand", and confirmed that he no longer works for the company.
Hopefully, the person responsible for this incident will think twice before using a slur in the future.
