For anyone who’s ever been behind the bar, the complex dance of mixing cocktails, especially during a bustling Saturday night shift, is no trivial task.

The art of blending different ingredients to create the harmonious symphony of flavors in cocktails like a pornstar martini or a whiskey sour is known to be laborious, and anyone ordering multiple is likely to receive them with the bartender working through gritted teeth.

However, a standout in the world of difficult beverages is the notorious Long Island iced tea. This popular concoction isn’t just intricate but is laced with not one, not two, not three, but four distinct types of spirits.

It's quite evident; the preference for this cocktail isn’t primarily for its intricate flavors. The traditional recipe calls for vodka, gin, rum, and tequila, rendering it one of the most potent mixtures to have. And let's not forget the addition of triple sec, which technically brings the count to a staggering five liquors, each a challenge to the stomach.

Crafting such a cocktail becomes a logistical puzzle as well, given that there's a 90% chance that all the liquors are located at different areas of the bar. The strenuous journey around the bar to collect the various spirits has become a common sight.

Reflecting on this, a bartender, known as @soundbowlbae on TikTok, shared her perspective on the beverage.

"Let me tell y'all a secret," she said, "When you order a Long Island, I’m thinking, 'Is everything ok? Why on earth would you want four different liquors in your drink?'"

This potent cocktail, mixing rum, vodka, tequila, and gin, has raised eyebrows and judgments from many bartenders.

Continuing her video while demonstrating the mixing process, she admitted that she judges the bar-goers who opt for a Long Island. This potent beverage, a literal powerhouse of spirits, has led many to believe that it is chosen for its economic advantage, allowing customers to maximize their inebriation while minimizing the number of orders.

"You are getting the most alcohol for the money in one drink," a user wrote, summarizing the general consensus.

The discussion initiated by @soundbowlbae on TikTok has opened a fascinating window into the world of bartending and cocktail concoction. The varied opinions and experiences shared reveal that Long Island iced tea is a little controversial.

Despite its potent reputation and the judgments it gets, the financial and alcoholic efficiency of the Long Island iced tea continues to make it a popular choice amongst customers seeking to maximize their experience.

So, the next time you find yourself opting for this drink, remember, it's not just a drink; it's an experience, blending artistry, skill and potency.
