Can you believe it was only back in 2007 that cookie butter was first invented? One contestant submitted a product idea for a spread made out of speculoos cookies to Belgian reality TV show The Inventors, and made it to the semi-finals. While she didn't win, she was approached by Lotus - and so the Biscoff Spread was born.

This spread has been in Europe since 2009 and in the United States since 2011, but now there's been another evolution of the caramelised treat: cookie butter ice cream.

According to a new press release, Lotus Bakeries (the creators of Biscoff) are finally bringing their ice cream to the US. The ice cream has been available in Europe for a few years, but now the US is going to be getting in on the action. In July, we'll be getting pints of the good stuff, while ice cream bars will be released in October this year.

"Biscoff is exploding in the U.S. and we can’t be more excited to bring the beloved Biscoff taste to ice cream," Lotus Bakeries US General Manager Michelle Singer said in the press release.

The ice cream bar will only have one variety, at least to begin with: consisting of the original cookie butter ice cream at the center, a coating of cookie butter, and a Belgian chocolate shell. On the other hand, the pints will come in five different flavours, including: Original, Chocolate Brownie, Belgian Chocolate Chip, Salted Caramel, and Blueberry Cheesecake.

You'll be able to find all of these buttery treats at Albertsons and Safeway stores in Oregon, Arizona, Idaho, and Northern California to begin with - with "many more chains" selling them in the future.
