A blind father-to-be has taken to Facebook to share a photo of an embroidered sonogram that has allowed him to "feel" his unborn child.

Due to his sight impairment, 26-year-old Nathan Edge was unable to see the sonogram of his baby and so a friend made an embroidered image of the scan to give him an idea of what his child looks like in the womb.

Posting a snap of the embroidered scan to Facebook on December 10, the grateful dad-to-be wrote:

"How incredible is this. Received this amazing surprise today... it’s a homemade embroidered tactile version of our 12 week baby scan, so for the first time as a blind dad to be, I’m able to build a picture of our baby scan through touch.

"Thank you so much Deb Fisher, I absolutely love it!"

The photo has since received 390 reactions and 80 gushing comments, with one person writing: "Gosh that’s fantastic was this done through the hospital didn’t know that was possible. You must both be so pleased to get a tactile one."

Another said: "That has got to be the most amazing thing I have ever seen Nathan Edge. Very powerful to think you can get the image of your little baby. Quite emotional."

Per Metro, Nathan and his expectant partner Emma Fotheringham, also 26, will become first-time parents in May 2021.

The loving couple met on a dating site four years ago and are looking forward to the newest addition to the family.

Emma revealed that a friend named Deb Fisher, who works as a local puppy walker for guide dogs sent her a message, expressing her joy at the pregnancy. She admitted, however, that she was sad Nathan was unable to see their baby in the sonograms.

And although she had never actually embroidered before, Fisher wanted to recreate all of Emma and Nathan's baby scans.

In a Facebook post, Fisher said that creating the piece left her in tears, adding: "bring on the 20 week scan".

According to Metro, Nathan was not born blind but began to lose his sight at the age of six, when he was left with only about 20% of his vision.

Following two failed procedures, he had completely lost his ability to see by the time he was 18.
